HIS THREE-ORBIT FLIGHT ON FEB. 20, 1962 WAS FOLLOWED BY LONGER FLIGHTS BY SCOTT CARPENTER, WALTER SCHIRRA, AND GORDON COOPER TO COMPLETE PROJECT MERCURY, AMERICA'S FIRST STEPS ON THE PATH TO SPACE. |
