41st JSC-FOD Chili Cookoff - April 6th, 2019
Back at the JSC Annual Chili Cookoff at the Gilruth Center, only my second time back since Obama canceled the Constellation Project
Once inside, head straight to the beer, Shiner Bock please
My first event was the 12th Cookoff back in 1990
The place is packed, seemingly recovered since the gutting of the contractors
Get oriented and decide on a starting place to sample chili
Comic Chili with their attached Beer Garden is a great starting place
Dad is along for the fun, despite a lower back ache
Up the Creek has been around at least 30 years
Star-Trec Chili is later judged 5th Best at the cookoff
Off-Kilter used some unfamiliar ingredients in my 4th sample
Best Little Chili House in Texas is well named for another year
Texas Chili Massacre had scary guy with skin face mask
These guys made up for their chili with their fantastic booth decorations
Make sure your robot insurance is in place before trying this chili
Chester's Chili School had a great storefront
Greenhorn was a little too green for me
Unknown Sample #11 was like a firecracker in my stomach
Raptor Chili was judged 3rd best & placed in Pyramid & Spoon Drop!
Pissed Cow had flavors I wasn't expecting
The Texans Chili finished at a lower standing than the football team
XL-ent Chili wasn't bad and in my top 15 of the day
Stalwart Red Baron was not up to their usual standings this year
The cows were mad at how their meat was treated
Unknown Sample #18 got Andy's people's choice ticket!
Jalepeno Power was good and definately in the top 19 sampled!
Had to wait in line for Red Planet Chili and even finished it
Unknown Sample #21 had too much fun to focus on chili
Frisky Peppers came in 4th in Space Trivia
The ARESisstable Machine dominated the cookoff (2nd) and games!
Unknown Sample #24 was outclassed by Daphne & Velma next door
In and Out Chili was, and is, still well named!
Time Machine Chili took me back to my youth (poopie diapers)
Spare Parts Chili offered large bowls of the good stuff
Unknown Sample #28 was pretty good
Unknown Sample #29 at least had five guys in the booth
Unknown Sample #30 had the nicest ladies doling it out
Unknown Sample #31 had decorations but no name sign
I really need to bring a notepad next time
Chiligirl Unicorn Showdown still had a too much unicorn in it
Purple Shade Chili really differentiated themselves from the others
Sample #35 concluded the running of the generic gauntlet
Red Hot Chili Prepper must have left an ingredient or two out
They put the RRRRRR in regurgitation
Better stick to popcorn and library checkout DVDs
Outpost Tavern doors recreated at the chili judging area
Chili trophies to be handed out for chili and gamesmanship
Winners from the past 40 years on display
Briefly stop by the pavillion and watch some team skits . . . the beer line was long
Raptor Chili was a force to reckon with in the games & showmanship
Fred and Wilma dance with the Rockettes
The sing, they dance, they levitate!
Benny Hill would be proud, as am I
And finally, Mystery, Incorporated solves the problem of the floated keg
Take our fresh beer to HOME Chili, just add boiling water to your MRE
Diver Down Chili was judged 4th best and they placed in three games!
Plus, their ghost chili jerky earned David's
Mighty Fine award
Garden Gnome Chili could not hope to compete w/ghost chili jerky!
Spartan Chili was lacking in basic character & refinement
Forty two chilis later, I'm not feeling so good
Bruce Banner at Comic Chili tells me not to get angry
I offer my People's Choice ticket and make for the bathroom
