Hamilton County Courthouse - July 27th, 2019

Visit the 1886 Hamilton County Courthouse in Hamilton, TX

Originally made in Second Empire Style (like Lampasas)

Remodeled to Classical Style after 1931

Richardsonian Romanesque - crenellated square turrets, round arch windows

The first two courthouses burned down, this one fared better!

Elise promoted Norwegian Emigration to Texas, died in 1895

Ann Whitney was killed by Comanches in 1867 while protecting her students

Comanche indian over one of the courthouse entrances?

Shield with wings around the corner for the same entrance

Spanish Revival style has the mission-inspired tower

Neoclassical - pedimented porticoes supported by classical fluted columns

Dependent for continued prosperity in the future upon almighty God

Cast stone medallions over each of the four secondary entries

The limestone masonry was quarried locally including the corner quoins

The restored Courthouse is an economic revitalization spark to downtown

A very interesting courthouse bringing three different styles together!

Find the cornerstone on the northeast corner of the courthouse

1932 County Judge and County Commissioners are listed on the left

Second cornerstone added during the 1932 remodel

Return in August 2025 for more photos and to venture inside

Lest We Forget the veterans of Hamilton County memorial

A 100 year time capsule has been added since my last visit

Visit on a Thursday and am able to go inside the 2012 restored courthouse

Ground floor center hallway with restoration plaque visible

Walk upstairs to find the courtroom is not in session today

Come forward to the judge's stand & Lady Justice holding the scales of justice

Look back at the empty courtroom with natural light

The County Annex is on the northwest corner of the courthouse square

The County Annex was originally built as the Hamilton National Bank

Farther west down Henry Street is the 1938 Hamilton County Jail

The Jail is the main repository for the County Historical Museum next door
