Waller County Courthouse - December 26, 2017
Head to Hempstead to see Waller County's 4th courthouse
The current 1955 Courthouse replaced the 1844 courthouse
The prior was torn down for a larger, "more attractive" brick 3-story building
A Waller County Veterans Memorial will be in place here next time I visit
Walk around to the east side as viewed from 8½ Street
Edwin Waller signed the TX Declar. of Independence & 1st Mayor of Austin
Walk around to the north side of the courthouse on Wilkins Street
Hempstead was a major CSA center for manufacturing & troop supply
Turn the corner on 9½ Street to view the marker on the northwest side
Small postal stations were phased out with advent of motor transportation
The center clock tower top has been preserved on a new structure
The clock and bell operated on top the new courthouse until 1971
Clock tower construction began in 1998, but halted for many years
Clock tower construction revived in 2008 and was completed in 2012
