USS Batfish (SS-310) - December 28th, 2016

Visit the grounded USS Batfish (SS-310) in Muskogee, OK

Knew it was closed today but hoped to get some outside photos of it

The Muskogee War Memorial Organization missed out on $27 today

Memorial to former POWs and to MIAs who sacrificed for freedom

Photo naval deck guns throught the chain link fence

Enclosed inside, close photos of the Batfish will be hard to come by

Capture a better view beyond and between a field gun and a deck gun

Alex checks out the equipment not enclosed in the fence

The girls like the M110 8" self-propelled howitzer and bulldozer

Walk near the park entrance toward a familiar sculpture

The girls join in the salute of Lady Liberty

The Walk of Honor displays donator bricks for the Memorial Park

Erin poses with Lady Liberty

That is enough climbing on Lady Liberty, lets head back to the car

View of the park from the entrance, just the truck and howitzer to view outside the building and fenced in area

View of the howitzer/bulldozer from back by the car

The museum location had prior historical significance before the sub

A memorial to the sailors lost on the USS Shark (SS-174) in 1942

The Batfish lies beyond the memorial, monument and ordnance

Walk to the far edge of the fence line for a side view of the Batfish

Find an angle to capture the ship's number 310 on the conning tower

Drive around to the road on the left side of the park

Finally, an unobstructed view of the Balao class diesel-electric submarine launched in 1943 and struck in 1969

One of eight Balao's on display in the US, the Batfish sank 9 ships on seven patrols in WWII and was recommissioned for the Korean War

Get a front view of the field gun & memorials behind it from the side view

Until next visit, I'll recall exploring its sister Lionfish (SS-298) in Fall River, MA
