Shark Arena

Caribbean reef shark knows it is almost dinner time

Follow me to the sandy semi-circle arena area

After all are in place in the semi-circle,
Clifton brings the box loaded with grouper chunks

Like ringing a bell, the sharks begin to salivate

The box is opened and he stabs a chunk of grouper

The sharks bite down on the fish on a stick

The sharks swim back and forth to the circle center

They pass by us, missing by only a few feet

Sometimes grazing us with their fins

More chances for fish the faster they swim

Clifton feeds them one chunk at a time

Hands near your body, no sudden movements

A camera flash re-energizing also attracts sharks

I follow the sharks with my camera for photos

They won't bite me . . . right?

Lower left photographer wears chainmail on her arms

Lots of bubbles as nervous divers watch

Their eyes always seem to follow you

Other divers visible in the background semi-circle

Clifton wears a helmet and chainmail armor underneath

So close, you could grab its remora!

The feeder must knock them off his arm occasionally

The sharks act like a cat near a can opener

This fellow has a line and hook caught in his mouth

Our FinPhoto purchased shot . . . David, Donna, and Andy on the shark dive

Clifton hands out the last chunk of fish

Clifton leaves with box taking the sharks with him

A few sharks linger while we wait for Clifton to depart

The sharks begin to realize that feeding time is over

No grouper here for you, mister

The second frenzy begins as all look for shark teeth

David continues to photo during the tooth scramble

Spooky shark

This lady bit on that pole pretty hard

Donna looks carefully for any lost shark teeth

This shark may be looking for his teeth as well

Andy doesn't have much luck either in finding teeth

Very pregnant shark

Andy heads back to the dive boat

A blue tang is not afraid of the sharks

Remora tries to relocated its lost shark

Andy swims above a shark

Remoras continues to look for his big buddy

They look like an upside down fish

Donna takes off her fins and prepares to board
