Beautiful beach at the park where we had lunch

Another view of Turtle Island

Different view of the beach

Granny enjoy the beach view

Granny entering Queen Emma’s Palace

Queen Emma’s garden patio

Queen Emma’s Palace (just a big house) built in the 1800s

Making the drive up to the Pali

Mountains were plentiful

Beautiful driving scenes

The camera just can't bring out the beauty of the trees

This tree is grows away from the power lines

An old sugar mile in ruin

More mountains beyond the fenceline

They're everywhere

More beaches as we drove around the island

Pali lookout was closed so here's a side road view

Mountain view while driving

Road construction on Oahu ain't so bad

Many of the beaches had woods in front of them

View from Diamond Head

The beaches were somewhat different but beautiful

The beach shots never end when on Oahu

Beaches and the always blue water

Strange rock formation (or concrete?) along the beach

With a closeup, it is not concrete

More rocks along the beachline and more blue water

Warning sign posted for no swimming - danger!

I thought I saw a surfer out there living dangerously

Don't mind staying out of the water and enjoying the beach

Waves crash on the rocks near the beach

Many rocks add to the sounds of crashing surf

Granny take a picture on the Pali Highway

Nena gets a picture as well

Granny enjoys the view with a pretty lei around her neck

We should have came back to Oahu much sooner!

Our drive down from the Pali

Stop and photo more beaches

Wish we had these beaches in Texas

Too bad we can't record the sounds and smells

Visiting the WWII Valor in the Pacific National Park

Granny & Nena pose with the USS Arizona's anchor

USS Bowfin (SS-287) was launched on 7 December 1942 and therefore nicknamed the Pearl Harbor Avenger

USS Missouri (BB-63), representing the end of WWII, faces the USS Arizona (BB-39) Memorial, the start of WWII

Approaching the USS Arizona Memorial

A closer view from the passenger boat

Within the USS Arizona Memorial

1,177 crewmen lost their lives onboard the USS Arizona on December 7, 1941

Part of the USS Arizona is seen above the water

The most visible feature is the barbette to gun turret #3

Granny & Nena pose on the USS Arizona Memorial

USS Missouri was docked & made a museum in June, 1998

Take the Ford Island Bridge over to Ford Island

Looks more like a park than a military base

But it is a base as here are the barracks

Granny poses in front of the USS Utah Memorial

Target Ship Utah (AG-16) was the first ship hit in the attack on Pearl Harbor and rolled over minutes later trapping over 60 men inside.   The ship was pulled back towards shore in 1944 for salvaging and now rests at a 38 degree angle

Only a small visual portion of Utah remains above water

Granny walks out to get a better view of the Utah

BB-31 Utah was converted into a radio-controlled target ship and redesignated AG-16 in 1931
under the terms of the 1922 Washington Naval Treaty

Nena poses with a Utah Memorial parking lot background

Heading back to the bridge to depart Ford Island

Reach the bridge back to the mainland.   See the stern side USS Nevada mooring quay beyond the rock rightside

A final look back at the USS Arizona Memorial while crossing the Ford Island bridge
