More Cowbell starts another year and another season with more questions than answers. With last seasons top three sluggers out this season, all eyes were on the new infield as Paul and Ken took the left side and subs Erin and Jessica took the right side of the infield. Our new starters picked right where last seasons sluggers left off, playing excellent infield and scoring 8 and driving in 9. Our subs got the job done as well and held the Horny Toads to only 4 runs with great backup from the outfield. Chris B, our new leadoff batter started the season off right with the game's only extra base hit. He, Jennifer, and Paul got on base all 12 times they had an at-bat. David gave up no walks, had a guy swinging K, but swung at a bad pitch with bases loaded in the 2nd and helped the Horny Toads avoid four straight run-ruled innings. Thanks to Mixed Up's Erin and N'Gator's Jessica for subbing in and welcome to our new teammates, Paul and Ken, great additions to the team. Here's to another great season!

More Cowbell takes on the surging Fightin Hangovers with a championship caliber team on a cool March evening. Fortunate recruiting brought in Paul, Ken, and indirectly Jessica (N'Gators) to the fold. Prior team anchors, Scott and Shanna, were able to sub in for Chris C and Jennifer tonight, and with Lindsay subbing for Ashley at home, More Cowbell was solid at every position but defensive pitcher. The top four batters got the job done and put the game away after the second frame. The rest of the team was able to settle down and calm down the Fightin' Hangovers to secure a four inning win. Lindsay caught 3 popflies at home and made a throw to first for a fourth out. Erin did a great job pitching for the home team, only game up one walk and even got David to foul out to start the 3rd inning. David is still oh-fer for walks on the season. Thanks to Scott, Shanna, Jessica, and Lindsay for subbing in tonight and hope to see them more often, especially Lindsay's victorious backflip celebration at all post-games.

More Cowbell battled the Not so Incredibles on a comfortable, last day of winter in early 2007. Three subs helped the home team capture the victory as strong defense kept the visitors in check. Ashley made an inning ending double play in the second by stopping a ball before it went foul and starting 2-3-4 double play to nullify a scoring threat. Strong offense powered an early comfortable lead with the most damage done by Moose with 3 runs and 3 rbis. David gave up his first walk of the year for one base but found an immobile right fielder who allowed him to limp for an extra base hit. Thanks to Bruce, Jessica, and Michelle for helping fill the roster but next week is the big showdown of the undefeateds and our sub girls will be facing us as members of the N'Gators. The winner will hold sole position of first place.

Yet another Wednesday night battle of undefeated teams featuring More Cowbell facing the surprising and long dormant N'Gators on a mild early spring evening. The contest, hyped as the Mixed League Melee for seven days prior, had the favorite More Cowbell looking to ring up their 20th win in a row over their oldest rival. But seven years of frustration had been welling up inside last millennium's perennial champion. After posting their dismal all-time record on the locker room wall and ordering brand new, custom embroidered, deep green uniforms, their first in eight years (since the glory days), the N'Gators took the field determined to defeat their nemesis. More Cowbell knew they were in for a brawl. The roster was thin with only two lady starters, Moose and Amy, and the usual pool of substitutes had gone dry. Leinenkugel's helped obtain the services of their favorite mercenary, Erin, and Amy recruited some last-minute, raw softball talent, Carrie, and Lindsay (making her second appearance). The game started ugly for the home team as errors and miscues fueled the visitors to a 9 run lead, their largest ever in the 23 game history of the rivalry. A Chris C double, moved to third by Lindsay, allowed David to drive in the first run for the home team and stop the bleeding. More Cowbell got inspired and shut down the visitors the next inning and promptly tied the game with 8 runs in the third frame. The N'Gators, on the verge of suffering their 20th straight loss to their old rival, mustered one more strong inning and put 3 more on the scoreboard. Ken answered with a crushing fence high double but was stranded at third as More Cowbell went down in order and the N'Gators finally ended the streak. David walked no batters and showed more defensive courage in later innings as his parents were in attendance following a soup-supper Lenten service. Many thanks to Erin, Lindsay, and Carrie for helping More Cowbell field a team. Best of luck to N'Gators who must still face Mixed Up and Fightin' Hangovers in their quest for their first championship this century.

The four week rainout finally ends for a 6pm game. The early start and doubleheader had More Cowbell two ladies short and a probable forfeit looming. Luckily, Karl sent Donna and Erin sent Branelle to fill in the big holes on the team. The home team started the game short a player but boths team fielded ten by the 3rd inning. And though both teams were rusty, Channel 4 News Crew was more so as their few offensive threats were stifled by great Cowbell defense. Good thing since the More Cowbell offense struggled and couldn't get cranking until the last couple innings. Moose was the juggernaut of the offense by batting a thousand and slugging a buck-fifty. Chris, Paul, and Chris did some major damage as well while Jennifer and Donna pushed runs across the plate. David forgot how to bat but remembered how to pitch and even found a few hit balls in his glove and started two 1-6-3 double plays. Many thanks to Donna and Branelle who helped us field a team. The win was great and the shutout was a little presumptuous, but then, More Cowbell moved to Field 1 to face their arch-nemeis, Mixed Up, who were waiting for us after just ending the N'Gator's undefeated season. And, as always, the winner would be the probable league champ.

More Cowbell took the field and was shut out for the first time in their 26 season history by their arch-nemesis, Mixed Up, who dealt them their second worst beating ever, pointwise. Mixed Up delivered a 17 run victory in the Fall of 2003 but Down A Few put 12 runners on base in that blowout. More Cowbell only put 5 runners on base tonight. Jennifer was solid on offense and even burned Tracie in left center once, but the rest of the team was still having a rainout. No one batted three times in five innings. The most zeroes ever displayed on the box score totals line is directly above. David had not been on a team this feeble since his men's league Diamond Dogs team nine years ago. Next week, three 5-1 teams duke it out for the title. Mixed Up and Fightin Hangovers are the favorites, but N'Gators could earn the title the hard way by defeating them both. More Cowbell must win out just to make it to the playoffs! But, as Bruce Dickinson once said, "Easy guys, let's put our pants on one leg at a time, make some gold records, and don't fear the Reaper!" He speaks for all of us. Right, Buck Dharma?   Post Game Shock

A week of thinking about that first shutout ever last week had More Cowbell aching to take the field again. Ken needed to take the night off so Scott leapt at the chance to come back to More Cowbell. He had been saving up his extra base hits all year long and let them loose. Scott basically hit three in the park homeruns in three at-bats. But one was called a ground rule double after Scott drove it out of the back fence. So he had to settle for only 10 bases in 3 at-bats. Alright, who left the fence open? The rest of the team played pretty good as well. Scott opened the flood gates in the first inning and the team put up a run-ruled inning completed by David with rbi double. And then David went oh-fer the rest of the night, for batting and pitching walks. But it didn't matter as Jennifer, Ashley, and Chris C each belted a RBI two-bagger and Chris B rounded the bases with a RBI triple. The defense was about to deal another shutout when David threw a sure double play into the outfield allowing the home team to score two runs. Last week started with More Cowbell dealing a shutout and then ended with the favor returned. David wanted none of that and made sure that didn't happen again. Thanks to Viccie for filling in for Lindsay and helping us field a full team. After securing the win versus Not So Incredibles, the team packed their bags and moved from field 1 over to field 2 to conclude the double header.

More Cowbell took on Scared Hitless with a spot in the playoffs on the line. Whoever lost would sit out during next week's post season play. With that in mind, Scott started where he left off last game, with an in-the-park HR. Moose got on next and the team pushed her across the plate, but Scared Hitless has a little better defense and held the visitors to two runs. The home team's leadoff batter followed Scott's lead and circled the bases for in-the-park homer. That fired More Cowbell up and they proceeded to put up their first run-ruled inning of game 2. Only David and (gasp) Scott got out in the 2nd. Moose and Jennifer posted RBI doubles and Chris B, Paul, and Chris C drove in the remaining four runs. A weak 3rd inning was followed by another run-rule in the 4th fueled by Jennifer and Paul's RBI doubles and finished with Scott's RBI double. The 5th had More Cowbell adding one more run to take a 15-3 lead into the home team's last chance. A quick inning was averted as David tipped a double play ball away from Scott and helped the home team put up a crooked number and finish with a respectable 15-8 defeat. David walked no batters and even coaxed a swinging strikeout from a guy. The regular season ends with More Cowbell taking third place and Fightin Hangovers winning their first season title with the head-to-head victory over Mixed Up. N'Gators dropped their final two games to drop to fourth place. Next week, the playoffs.

The playoffs began with Weds-3rd More Cowbell taking on Tues-3rd Amigos on Field 2. During pregame warmups, Blue informed Captain Dave that this wasn't the usual Amigos team that was taking the field. This one was an all-star team made up of ringers that would be a tremendous hurdle for More Cowbell to leap to the second round. With that in mind, More Cowbell took the field and held Amigos to no runs in the first. A few of the ringers on Amigos are longtime favorite substitutes for More Cowbell. Trien pitched and Christy B played left field. Trien's speed and Christy's long drives help fuel the Amigos' three run 2nd inning with help from a few defensive misques. More Cowbell answered with 1 in the bottom of the frame after Chris C led off with a double and Ashley pushed him across the plate. More Cowbell defense dominated after the 2nd and held the visitors scoreless for the remainder of the game. Trien tried for an extra base late in the game but Ken applied the tag at the bag after a fine throw from Chris C. David induced many flyball outs and even finagled a swinging strikeout from the opponent's deepest threat. More Cowbell had a chance to steal the game in the 6th when Paul led off with a double and was batted in by Jessica but the rally soon fizzled out. The last chance 7th inning ended with one man stranded at first and More Cowbell succumbed to a one run defeat in the second lowest cumulative scoring (5 runs) game ever. Amigos went on to lose to the Thurs-1st Softball Superheros in extra innnings by one run from a sacrifice fly. The Superheros defeated Scared Hitless and then Fightin Hangovers in the final to take the overall Spring Coed Title. N'Gators won more playoff games (1) than both More Cowbell and Mixed Up. Spring Season blue stars go to Jennifer who had the 2nd best ladies offensive stats ever (Shanna: .769 avg & 1.038 slg in Sum06) and Moose led the team with reaching base. Paul was the offensive power for the guys leading in all categories. Scott had the greatest night ever with 3HRs and 3 doubles with 7 at-bats in a doubleheader but a 51% appearance rate is needed for team batting titles. Chris B, Paul, and David were the team Ironmen who made all nine games. More Cowbell did not finish in second place again, they dropped to third. Next season will feature the return of Scott and Blake, plus the addition of Jessica Cornwall to an already potent, cowbell ringing, lineup.
