The summer season starts with a new "balanced" schedule courtesy of every team's
favorite Gilruth sports administrator. His willingness to change rules for the seemingly sole purpose of
angering everyone is only amplified with his usual solution of leaving Gilruth and playing at Big League
Dreams. Team captains will investigate some new solutions to try to convince the administrator that there
are better ways to operate and if not, maybe the unfair scheduling will beat out the no BYOB for the final
reason for softball retirement. The new "balanced" schedule has More Cowbell only playing 6pm & 7pm games
this season. That will better help us see the outdoor thermometer point to 95º everytime we take the field.
Our oldest rival, N'Gators, joined us as we christened Field 2's
new fence. Scott got it rolling with leadoff homerun and Chris C later pushed Jennifer across for 2 run
lead. David took the mound in the bottom of the frame and induced a leadoff swinging strikeout. A nice start
for the Cowbell defense who went on to hold N'Gators scoreless the next four innings.
Cowbell scored 4 runs in the 4th with 5 hits and added 2 more in the 5th with 3 hits and a reach.
N'Gators finally started clicking in the 5th and put 3 runs on the board but there wasn't a six
inning and More Cowbell claimed the victory. Hopefully, N'Gators have found their groove as
they next take on last season's defending champ, Balls N Curves, who still yet to play in 2+ months
with the league's bye tonight. More Cowbell hopes for a chilly 94º start time next week as start their
first of three straight 7pm games. At least there are no mosquitos at that time of day. |

More Cowbell faced Fightin' Hangovers in the second game of the night with a
90 degrees, 99 degree heat index, 57% humidity, & partly cloudy weather report. The 8-games-before-8pm team had to hope the
6-games-after-8pm team would succumb to the heat during their one of only two 7pm games during the summer season.
The F'n Hangovers has mutated to a ringer-only team the last couple seasons and only fielded three teammates
from the Big Ballaz days. Even Todd, the face of the Hangovers, is no longer associated with the
team. With that in mind, More Cowbell needed their AA game to hang a "W" on the Hangovers.
But alas, Cowbell brought out their "C" game and could not stop their opponent's methodical scoring machine. The
offense also stumbled out of the gate. Cowbell didn't generate two baserunners until the 4th inning when two doubles
and two singles finally pushed a
couple runs across the plate. The Hangover's didn't score in the 5th inning only because blue called the game
with one out and two baserunners onboard. Cowbell players hung out with Mixed Up players post game and
reminisced of the old days when the two teams traded championships. David reminisced over the last two games to
calibrate the late game temperature difference but totally forgot to make note of the temperature after 7-8 beers and
four McDonald's double cheeseburgers. |

More Cowbell takes on the spring season's undefeated champ who dropped
a 9 run loss on the cowbell back in April. Both teams were minus a guy and batted two girls in a row
in the 8th & 9th position. Scott started the game with a double and Chris & Jessica sent him home for
the first run of the game. The cowbell defense was rather stout tonight, despite the setting sun in
most of the fielders faces. David coaxed a HR-K and two foul-outs in the first inning and the cowbell O went
back to work. David, Donna, Kristen, and Scott got four hits in a row and Chris had a 2RBI single to
tack on four more in the 2nd inning. Balls N Curves scored two in the 3rd with the help of Brew Crew's
Andrew and the top of the lineup. Cowbell added one more run in the 4th after Scott hit a double and
ran home on a throwing error. Cowbell got the first two outs in the final frame when BnC mounted a small
rally that ended after one run scored. With the win, More Cowbell climbs to second place and Chris B
plays his final game of the season (hopefully) as he takes off the next 6 weeks. If we have two more
rainouts and makeup all the games, we'll see Chris in October! |

More Cowbell takes on Dodgeball as Hurricane Ike approaches in the gulf. Many players
on both teams elected to prepare for evacuation so many substitutes were required. More Cowbell took advantage
of the weak Dodgeball defense and every player sweetened their stats offensively and the team put up an extremely
rare thousand slugging average for the game. The visitors put in a good inning in the final frame so all parties were
able to have a little fun tonight. Tomorrow, we'll bag our work equipment, depart at noon, board up the house, and
head to higher ground. Good luck and see you after the storm. |

More Cowbell takes on Not So Incredibles after a six week Hurricane Ike layoff which damaged the
fences and lighting systems at the Gilruth Rec Center. Five beautiful Wednesdays came and went and when it was finally time to play ball, a cold front
approached with lightning and rain. Luckily, the 6pm game would be played in its entirety before the storm arrived.
More Cowbell picked up where they left off six weeks ago with strong defense and offense and put 8 on the board before
the Not So Inc. could get their scoring machine in gear. The home team was able to match run for run after second
inning and secured the victory. Thanks to Andrew, Ryan, Viccie, and Ben who able to come out and sub for on a rare 3 guys
out night. All four slugged a thousand and are welcome back at their earliest convenience. Nel played with a hurt quad
and was thrown out on two at-bats she likely would have beat out if she were 100%. The front started arriving at the conclusion
of the game and the occasional distant lightning strike provided additional lighting for fishing out beer in the bottom of
the cooler. More Cowbell is tied with the fewest losses in the league but three tough opponents remain in the last two
weeks including a surprising 8pm scheduled game next week. It was great to back at the park again! |

More Cowbell takes on league leading Brew Crew days before Halloween
and decided to dress up for the occasion. It was probably a bad idea as the team's offensive and defensive
capabilities were diminished by the costumes. The costumes lessened mobility and reduced vision and allowed the visitors to get base hits when there should have been outs and made the bats cold for the offense. The Crew scored 3 runs
in the first frame and cowbell made it 3-2 by the end of the second. A throwing error and several missed outfield
flies gave the crew four unearned runs in the 3rd that basically put the game away. Cowbell rallied for 4 runs in
the 4th and hoped to put up 3 more for the win in the 5th but went down quietly in order. All offensive stats took
a beating. Ben learned of the 2 strike K the hard way and the N'Gator's Michelle had the only thousand batting
average for the team. David popped out twice to the infield and blames his sight limiting fro 100%. The fro helped
during pitching by distracting and amusing opposing batters. Or maybe angering them as the Crew sent 5 balls over the
fence for outs. Next week is a 6pm & 7pm double header, if we win both, we are in the playoffs. No costumes next week!

More Cowbell takes on arch-rival Mixed Up on Field 1 with the playoffs on
the line. The visitors get an early Christmas present of 4 unearned runs with help from 2 fielding errors, 1 throwing
error, and a one base walk in the first inning. Cowbell kinda answers with one run in the first, but then goes oh-fer
the next two innings while giving up 4 more runs and found themselves in big 1-8 deficit. With pride and playoffs
on the line, cowbell awoke in the 4th inning and unleashed an impressive nine batter, six run, run-ruled inning
to get to within one. The defense held in the fifth and the
cowbell took the lead with two singles, two doubles and a SAC fly for four runs and a three run lead. The
cowbell defense held Mixed Up one more time in the final frame and chalked up the win with a tremendous
10 run, come from behind rally in the last two innings. The victory puts More Cowbell into the playoffs and
locked Mixed Up out. More Cowbell takes a 12-11-1 edge in the all-time series and now have a
three game win streak following the 0-13 whipping Mixed Up
dealt them in the spring 2007 season. This marks the first time More Cowbell has had a winning record
against Mixed Up since Major Woody won the first meeting in the Spring 1999. |

More Cowbell faces Bad A's in the final game of the regular season
with playoff seeding on the line. Scott leads off with an unassisted out at first. A hit and a walk and two outs later, cowbell
finds themselves on defense. David gives up a solo homerun to Chelsey and the Bad A's tack on two more during
the aftershock of the round tripper. Cowbell loads the bases in the second inning, and with two out, Scott comes up to bat.
Scott hits to first again and the inning ends with only one run scored beforehand. David gives up a three run homerun
to Chelsey in the 2nd inning. When Scott gets out, David gives up an out-the-park homerun
Stop that! Cowbell pushes another run across the plate in the 3rd but a double play ends that promising
inning. Four hits in a row earn only one run in the fourth when both Scott and Moose make the last two outs.
More Cowbell matches Bad A's three runs the last two innings but can't make up the damage served in the
first two frames. Scott goes 0-for-3 and David gives up two out-the-park homeruns in the same game. Neither had happened
before and I hope neither happen again. Nel and Ryan combine for 40% of the teams offense but it is not enough.
More Cowbell settles for the 4th seed in the playoffs while Bad A's
earn the 3rd seed behind #2 Fighting Hangovers and #1 Brew Crew .

More Cowbell assembles a team for the playoffs, despite lacking Scott, Moose, Jessica and Nel.
Reloaded with substitutes Viccie, Michelle, and Ben, the team assembled for the first round of playoffs only to be told
upon arrival that the first game was forfeited and to wait in the 50 degree cold for two hours until the next game. Thanks
alot. The initial forfeit victory over thursday 3-seed NASA Knuckleballers will remain undocumented.
Adjourning to the warmth of Arby's, the team reassembled at Field 2 for a second round playoff match with thursday 1-seed
Wrecking Crew. Cowbell has never beaten Wrecking Crew and that won't be changing tonight. Chris B volunteered
to take Scott's place at short. Then the Wrecking Crew put on a hitting clinic hitting liner after liner between third
and shortstop. More Cowbell got all three outs in only the first inning and time running out was all that prevented a third straight
run-ruled inning for the home team. Statistically, cowbell hit well, and had two double plays end innings with more hits than outs. But
defensively, we stunk. David was still recovering from the plague his daughter Alex brought home from daycare and was a complete
zombie on the mound after pitching the ball and he looked like a ghost wearing full warmups and a grey hooded sweatshirt while the
other players just had a long sleeve t-shirt and warmup bottoms on. David had a fever on and off all
week, but everybody knows that the only prescription is More Cowbell. Jennifer later topped that by breaking her hand in the 9pm game.
A cast works even better than a prescription in this case. The sound beating, continued cold spell and lingering
illness prompted David to inquire if team desired to be doubly eliminated or if this game was good enough to call it a season. The team
concurred and More Cowbell submitted their own forfeit, but with the decency of advanced knowledge to our Wednesday night opponent.
The forfeit defeat to the tuesday 4-seed Amigos will also remain undocumented. Weds Champ Brew Crew is defeated by Thunderbear
but gets another whack at them in the championship game after rolling through the loser's bracket.
The season concludes with only David making all nine games and having the highest batting average (You must play in half the games to be
considered). Jennifer had the highest batting average and
slugging average for the ladies, while Scott achieved the highest slugging average for the guys. Next season starts weeks after Chris & Ashley
welcome their first & David welcomes his second child into the world. We plan to field another team in the spring but only then will we
