Major Woody started its third season with a win hoping to get back to its first
season form. A defensive struggle knotted the contest at a 0-0 tie until the bottom of the third where the
Woody offense open up for a five spot. Just for Fun awoke the next inning but the Woodies held them off in
the last inning to preserve the win. Offensive leaders had Debbie and Patricia hitting 2 for 2 with a walk each. New
comer Nikki executed a perfect "Crash & Berndt" power bunt for a hit in her first at bat and later advanced
to second on a poor throw while taunting the other team by crawling to second. The late game enabled
Dave's power-nap enduced offensive juggernaut going 3 for 3 with a double and a triple. Newcomer Sergio
was perfect himself going 3 for 3 as well. The team received 4 bases by walk and allowed zero. |

Major Woody took on the undermanned Wild Things on the most beautiful
night for softball in Houston the summer league has ever seen. Low humidity, high of 84
degrees and a light wind kept the mosquitos away. The MW bats had one of their best
nights ever with the help of Debbie smashing the ladies 2nd triple ever in five seasons.
Tom had his first start with perfect stats and currently leads the team in slugging.
Donna's first start and first at bat powered a line drive thru the left infield for a hit
on her first try. The MW defense held Wild Things to two runs and only allowed four
baserunners to third. Tonya continued her outstanding performance as first baseman.
David has yet to allow a walk this season. With David on the mound, the team has 6 bases to
zero allowed this season and 160 bases taken for 18 given over five seasons. |

Major Woody had their worst inning ever in the first being run-ruled while getting
only one out. David walked two men for four bases and two runs. David protested the illegal oblong ball
that he couldn't get over the plate in the 2nd inning. Blue finally agreed in the third, threw out the
illegal ball and we finally had a ball game, but not before spotting the N'Gators 6 runs. By the way, the
N'Gators successfully pulled this stunt off last season as well for a win and built up a big lead before
their illegal ball was finally thrown out. It turned out
to be six too many as the teams played evenly after that giving the Woodies their first loss. Highlights
of the game included Tom maintaining his perfect batting average and Nikki catching a foul pop fly for an
out. Lowlights include three men homeruns for outs and David walking two men for two runs. The team now
has 11 bases for four allowed for this season and 171 taken for 22 allowed over the last five seasons. It
only gets worse next week as we take on the number one team at 6pm in the heat of the day. Time to cinch it
up a notch and upset Mixed Up! |

Major Woody had their second ever run-ruled first inning back to back with last week.
After David, dropped a tag at home in the 2nd, Mixed up didn't score again. Too bad Major Woody couldn't muster many
hits to catch up. Extra base hits were the key to scoring and Major Woody only had three. Mark was shut out
by a good catching right fielder and David gave up another walk to none received. The team now
has 11 bases for five allowed for this season and 171 taken for 23 allowed over the last five seasons. |

Major Woody had the game in the bag in the top of the seven with a game ending double
play before any runs scored. Unfortunately, some Astro luck fell on the team and a dropped ball on the double
play brought the top of the order up. The emotional letdown affected the team and TBD then put up a two out,
run-ruled inning. Tough luck. Game highlights had Donna getting a base hit and catching a long drive to right
field. Nikki beat out two base hits with well placed balls away from the pitcher, third, and short. David helped
his own cause by getting his first two base walk this season and not allowing any, bringing the season total to 5 given to
13 taken and career total to 23 allowed for 173 taken. David still refuses to keep stats on avoided hits up
the middle as at least 5 found their way for base hits as David ran to first for safety. We have the two worst
teams left to go and one tied for first. We can still win the last three for a winning season! |

Major Woody finally heeded a wake up call first inning as 5 errors and
two walked men gave the Space Cows a 5 run spot in the first and then more blunders allowed a 4
run spot in the second. Crash, sensing his team's disgust on the field and in the dugout
personally lead Major Woody to victory with his bat as he had the greatest offensive game of any
player in the five season history of the team. Crash tied the record for 2 homeruns in a game
but smashed the record for bases in a game with 14 bases in 5 at bats while going for the
cycle plus an extra homerun. Crash almost doubled his slugging average in one game, going
from .688 to 1.190. The rest of the team took notice and put up two run ruled innings in a row
and sealed an easy win that looked like disaster until the 3rd inning. The team set a batting
average and slugging average record with the help of both Nikki and Donna pounding out two hits.
David walked in three batters with 2 guy walks bringing the season total to 9 given to 13 taken
and career total to 27 allowed for 173 taken. Blue's strike zone was TINY! |

Major Woody finally beat a team with a winning record by playing a
team that had some obvious staffing problems. Their pitcher would deliver a walk if you
wanted it and only four girls provided an automatic out at the end of the line up the two
times through they batted. The Major Woody offensive carnage was sweet yet short as another
inexperienced in coed softball ref called a run-ruled game after only 35 minutes of play.
He ran off to take a dump before we were able to explain we have run-ruled innings, not
run-ruled games. Crash's rollercoaster season took a downturn as he punched in two K's
this week with an HR-K and, gasp, a swinging strikeout. Highlights included Kathy's
3 for 3 batting, Nikki's 2 for 2 batting, and Mark's pinpoint throw home from shallow right
for a tagout at the plate. David wanted one more at bat to bring his career hits for 5 seasons
to an even one hundred. David walked no batters bringing the season total to 9 given to
21 taken and career total to 27 allowed for 181 taken. Next week, Hooch, Major Woody's
stepchild, gets whacked! |

The final game of the Summer Season brought a large crowd of 50 spectators
to witness the spectacle of Hooch vs Major Woody. The Woody's set the tone of the game with a
one out, run-ruled first inning that Hooch would never surpass. The ref made the game interesting yet
non-biased by making two bad calls for each team. All allowed extra unearned runs to score for both teams.
Hooch brought the interest to a peak when Coach Amanda stepped in front of a Greif pitch and then
charged the mound. The whole Hooch dugout followed suit and ganged up on pitch Greif who got no
assistance from his own team. After the melee ended with no tossouts, Greif continued his power
pitching for the win. David did walk Karen bringing his season total to 10 bases given to
24 taken and career total of 28 allowed for 184 taken. David also had his 100 hit of Crash team
career. Crash stopped the game, rescued the ball and presented it to David with a 100 emblazoned
on it for the display case. Kevin was the offensive star of the game with a homer and double.
David knocked 3 doubles and scored three times giving him his namesake batting title for the 2nd
time and his highest ever season batting average of .926. Debbie also regained her namesake batting
title with a best ever .733 batting average, besting her teammates by over .270. See you next season! |
