Far West Galveston Beach - June 22nd, 2014

Wake up Sunday morning to find rain on the mainland off in the distance. We stayed in the building far left 2 years ago

Girls play with Legos while waiting for cousins to arrive

Ahma brought up two playsets for the girls to enjoy

Ahma prepares watermelon for the girls' breakfast

Erin works on building a cow and a pig

Trip to the grocery store provides a new suitcase lego set

Meet the cousins at the beach closer to San Luis Pass

The most seaweed
EVER greets us on our arrival

I thought we were going to the beach, daddy, not the dump

Ahma pulls out the rake but begins to have 2nd thoughts

I scout out the path through the seaweed to the beach

Water is 4in deep at the seaweed edge that is 3ft deep

And the seaweed covers 60ft across the beach

No problemo says the man with the rake

Doug starts working the 3 foot pile at the waters edge

David stars clearing a path to the water

Torn blisters on hands force an early quiting time

Clear out all but 20 feet of seawood so get a running start

Set up the sun canopy and finally relax at the beach

Uncle Doug helps Tor and Alex make some quick progress

Cheyenne, Erin, Alex and Savanna play in the sand

These little shovels have really gotten the job done

Tor relaxes in the shade with a MP3 player & cold drink

Girls cannot resist feeding the seagulls awhile

Alex knows they will be hungry back at the resort

Review the cleared path of seaweed to the beach

Progress slowed down once the seaweed got two feet deep

Doug cleared as much volume and allowed an entry point

Is this planet earth much less Galveston Beach?

Seaweed as far as the eye can see!

Kids finally make it out to play in the surf

Bojangles also likes to play in the surf

Surf is OK once you clear that stinky seaweed

Yep, you gotta suit up to clear that yuckiness!

Girls swim with Uncle Doug

The dig in the sand with Ahma

And yes, the seaweed is still all around us at the beach

The seaweed is so high, it almost hides the cars from view

Alex provides a unit of measure of the seaweed height

Wishing for the days of jellyfish and oil balls now

Girls look for hermit crabs in the sand

If you find one, put it in the bucket and keep looking

Alex looks for hermit crabs at the seaweed entry point

Our walk path has trampled down the seaweed to see her

The girls collect a few hermit crabs in their bucket

Erin shows off her tiniest one hiding in its shell

Kristen captures a great group photo before departure

Time to head back because it has been a long day

Doug and Kristen and kids stop by the resort to clean up

Enjoy dinner and little playtime after cleanup

The corndog gang digs into some tasty morsels

Ahma is happy that the whole family decided to stay over

Alex is happy to share her bed with her cousins tonight
